Five Athol Garage Staff all volunteered and joined up together on the outbreak of WW2 in November 1942 servicing with the R.A.S.C: From back left: Bill Kermode (Sales Manager), Corpl Ian Mackie (Mechanic), Corpl Robert (Bob) James Curphy (Paint-Shop Foreman), Lance-Corpl James (Jimmy) David Blackburn (Car Hire Mechanic) and Lance-Corpl Douglas (Dougie) Jackson (Motor Mechanic). All went to France, were evacuated together through Dunkirk, then went to the Middle East & were captured at Tobruk (Libya) in June 1942. They were then all held as POW’s in Stalag 344 Camp in Germany until liberated at the end of the War.
